The Pool Planner started with a simple frustration: it’s nearly impossible to get a straight answer about what a swimming pool actually costs without handing your phone number to a dozen contractors first.
We built this site to fix that. Our free pool cost calculator gives you a transparent, line-item cost estimate — base construction, excavation, equipment, permits, and add-ons — priced for your state. No signup, no sales calls, no gimmicks.
Who’s Behind This Site
The Pool Planner is written and maintained by John Smith, a home-services publisher who researches construction pricing, permitting, and contractor selection across the United States. Every cost figure on this site is compiled from published builder pricing, industry cost guides, and regional labor data, then reviewed and updated as market conditions change.
How Our Estimates Work
Our estimates combine three inputs: the surface area of the pool you size up, the construction type you choose (fiberglass, gunite/concrete, or vinyl liner), and a regional cost multiplier that reflects labor and material differences across the country. We always show a range — low, mid, and high — because real quotes vary with site conditions no calculator can see, like soil type, slope, and yard access.
Important: our estimates are planning tools, not quotes. Use them to set a realistic budget and to sanity-check the bids you receive — then get at least three written quotes from licensed local builders before signing anything. Our guide on choosing a pool builder walks you through exactly what to ask.

How This Site Is Funded
This site is supported by advertising and affiliate partnerships — not by selling your information. We don’t collect phone numbers and we don’t sell leads to pool builders, so using our tools will never result in sales calls. See our affiliate disclosure for the full picture of how we make money and how we choose what to recommend.
